The Top 5 Green Jobs For 2011 in America

According to the United Nations Environment Program, a green job, or a green-collar job is one that helps protect and preserve biodiversity and ecosystems. Green workers reduce materials, water consumption, and energy by increasing resource efficiency. These jobs are minimize pollution and all forms of waste.

Below are the top five Green jobs available in America today.

1. Farmer - Do you know the shocking truth about farmers in America? There are only 2 million, and their average age is 55. This market is screaming for more workers on the local and small scale, particularly for young farmers who know organic production methods and avoid the use of pesticides and petroleum-based fertilizer. The U.S. Job market has capacity for ten million farmers. However, the job is not as easy at it might seem to some. Modern farmers must be skilled businesspersons knowledgeable in heirloom genetics and marketing.

2. Energy Efficiency Builder - In the US, buildings actually account for 48% of greenhouse emissions and energy use. We are way behind the rest of the world in this. Switzerland and Germany, for instance, use 75% to 95% less heat energy than a building built to environmental code in the U.S.

There is a huge opportunity here for one of the major green building certifications today. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) has given accreditation to more then 43,000 professionals. When the U.S. standards get stricter, the country will need a workforce of retrofitters to go with its millions of engineers and architects.

3. Urban Planners - The linchpin of America's campaign to lower its carbon footprint. Urban planners will help us reduce our use of cars and encourage the utilization of bicycles. They will also strengthen mass transit, limit sprawl, and help us plan for heat wave, garbage creep, and flooding contingencies.

4. Recycling Professional - More than 1 million recycling jobs are available in America. A shocking number of people engaged in this area have been continuing to grow. This is primarily because recycling still continues to be the most economical alternative to high disposal fees. Hiring in this sector will always be active.

5. Solar Power Installer - There are 770, 000 jobs worldwide for installing and making solar power systems. Opportunities for this work are still relatively high and high paying too. In fact at the present, 3,400 companies are still employing power installers--some as many as 35,000 workers in one company! This job will definitely promote the welfare of the environment and the economic sectors, and the job prospects of its skilled workers.

While we continue to face a recession and our young adults decide which jobs will be available when they graduate from college, green jobs are looking more attractive all the time.

Video Resumes - The Time Is Now!

During this awful economy, there are so many applicants and so few jobs. Why would an employer choose you rather than resume #1177? Within that the flood of resumes are many that are impressive. So how do you break through and win?

Not by obsessing about the beautiful font, luxurious paper and chronological order of your printed resume. Or thinking you didn't get "that job" because you went to a state university rather than Harvard?

The differentiator is you! Not the "you" on paper or the raves you received from your previous employers, but the "you" who looks at the camera and has a sense of humor, is comfortable with the camera, has a winning smile-someone an employer would like to see on staff each morning.

While your impressive background and previous successes are essential, video resumes are now opening doors. In fact, polls show 89 percent of employers have said they would view a video resume. These potential employers also indicate that job candidates gain the edge when their "actions speak louder than words."

So how do you create a video resume? Numerous websites say all you need is a handicam to make a video. While that is true, your "on-camera" performance is equally important. If your "time in the spotlight" is limited to waving at the handicam, here are a few important tips in conveying "likeable" and "expert."

• Keep it short: Two minutes or under is optimum according to 78% of employers.
• Know your audience: Tailor your video to your target industry.
• Talk to me: Don't read. This is your opportunity to establish a relationship.

Or, click, it is on to the next candidate.

That's why Executive Speak/Write helps clients define their "best you," and capture that essence on tape. We encourage them to determine:

• Are you relating directly to the camera, but not staring?
• Is the information you're giving in such a short time the best way to present yourself?
• Are you unforgettable-from wardrobe to charm to confidence? Packaging is essential.

Job applicants are appropriately obsessive about being immaculate in print. They ask friends and experts to make sure resume format and wording are perfect. Shouldn't you have the same sense of being "immaculate" when the prospective employer sees you on tape? You must be trained and supervised to guarantee your two minutes is strong enough to convince a prospective boss you're the best choice for the job.

Freelance Bid Jobs - Tips on Getting Your Bid Selected

These tips will help you stand out against the competition by showcasing your experience, efficiency, confidence, and ability.

State that You Have Experience with that Type of Work

With the plethora of freelancers out there, employers are looking for those who offer not only competitive rates, but also experience. Stating your experience shows that you know what you're doing because you've done it before. It also shows that previous employers have paid you to do that type of work, which prospective employers take seriously. However, be careful not to overstate your abilities. This will most likely just lead to disappointment on the part of your employer, as well as you being overwhelmed by taking on a task you're not ready for.

Reassure the Employer that You Can Do the Work Quickly and Easily

Obviously, employers are looking to get a job done. Stating your experience helps show that you are able to get the job done, but it's important to let them know you are also able to get the job done in an efficient and timely manner. Tell them when you can have it done. Try to make that date as soon as possible, while also being realistic about how long it may take you. In other words, give yourself a tiny bit of cushion to make sure your goal is achievable, but try to get it done quickly.

Be Confident

Don't try to get a job by telling an employer how desperate you are for this job. Telling a sob story is not appealing at all. Even if you are in dire need of money, pretend you're not. That doesn't mean you act like the job doesn't matter. It just means you show you're confident in your skills as well as your ability to find work because of those skills. Even if you don't get this job, you will get another one because you're good at what you do.

Explain HOW You Will Do the Work (So They Know You Already Have a Plan)

This shows you're ready, prepared, and organized-something employers greatly value. Outlining a plan for getting the job done lets the employer know you're serious about their project and that you're capable of handling it. It also reiterates your confidence. Let them know how you plan to handle their project.

Bids can get very competitive, but stay confident and be patient. Your bid will get selected if you follow these tips.
